Question: Forgot Password?

Answer:
If you forgot your password, simply click here or on the forgot password link to have your password sent to your e-mail address.

Question: I can’t find the image I want on your site – what can I do?

Answer:
Please email us with your research request. We will happily source the images you require on your behalf. It’s all about service – we are proud of our service standards.

Question: I need more than one lightbox - is this allowed?

Answer:
You may have as many as 99 lightboxes to save your short-listed images in. Go wild!

Question: Are the images you sell publication-ready?

Answer:
Yes, all images viewable on the site are available in a fully-corrected, publication ready form.
We embed the Adobe 1998 colour profile in the images to ensure accurate colour reproduction across monitors.
Images have been carefully colour corrected, screened for scratch marks and blemishes removed.
They are therefore ready for use directly in your final product be it a high-quality book, magazine or billboard.
Scans are generally not not sharpened as this is best left till after the image has been re-sized to final size for reproduction.

Question: I need to print the image at A2 size - can I use your Hi-res files for this?

Answer:
Yes, our clients have successfully printed out our hi-res files to A2 size (after re-sampling the image in a software package like Adobe). Some have even stretched the 28Mb Tiff files (our hi res downloadable files) and used them successfully on Billboards!

For best results we would however recommend that you request a custom scan suitable to your specific needs. Almost all the images on the site are immediately available from us as 60MB TIFF files. Contact us, and we would be happy to assist you.

Question: I want to use one of the low-res images as a reference for some artwork - is this covered by the free comping license?

Answer:
The simple answer is No. All our images are protected by copyright and the use of any pictures as reference would be in violation of the copyright even if it is only the low res image.

But our artist's reference rates are really reasonable so why not give us a call and negotiate a rate for your intended usage. Imagine if you are prevented from selling your masterpiece because it is in violation a a photographer's copyright! It's so easy to legalize your usage:

Question: How many fresh images are added each month?

Answer:
New images are added to our database on an ongoing basis. Not only are we adding our own images but the Alamy collection is growing by about 300 000 images per month! All these images are seamlessly available by searching our website.

Question: Are your files PC and MAC compatible?

Answer:
Yes, our files are compatible with both operating systems and this has been borne out by our clients over several years of doing business.
Embededed colour profiles in the images ensure consistent reproduction across monitors and platforms.

Question: Can I purchase images for a school project?

Answer:
Unfortunately we are not set up to do business with scholars.

We appreciate that you may like to use images for this purpose, but would appeal to you to contact your local photo library or a photographer in your area to assist you with this.

Question: How do I use Lightboxes?

Answer:

USING LIGHTBOXES IS QUICK AND EASY

First, Login to your account (You need to register to use lightboxes)

CREATE A LIGHTBOX

Select “My lightboxes” (under the My Afripics tab on the top navigation bar)

Click on ‘Create a lightbox’, fill in the lightbox name (required), then click ‘Add’

Search for the images you want

Select the active lightbox from the drop-down menu on the top right hand side of the search results page

Click on the lightbulb icon next to each pic you want to add to the lightbox

SEND A LIGHTBOX
to a client or friend

Select “My lightboxes” (under the My Afripics tab on the top navigation bar)

Click on ‘send’ next to the selected lightbox

Fill in the receipients email address and add a short message if you like

Click on ‘send’

The recipient will receive an email with a link to your lightbox and be able to see all the images
